Recording: What the Fall 2026 FICO® Score Credit Insights Report Found Under a Flat National Average

About the Webinar

PRESENTER:

  • Tommy Lee, Sr. Director, B2B Analytic Science, FICO

ABOUT THE WEBINAR:

The average FICO® Score has held at 714 for two consecutive reporting periods, and 30-day delinquency was flat or improved across every major credit product. On the surface, that reads as a consumer credit market at rest.

The Fall 2026 FICO® Score Credit Insights Report finds something less settled underneath. Average bankcard balances rose 3.8% to $7,793 while utilization eased, because credit limits grew faster than balances, mostly for higher-scoring consumers. New personal loan originations kept shifting toward stronger credit profiles even as balances grew fastest among the lowest-scoring borrowers. And roughly 3.2 million consumers with a recent student loan delinquency saw their scores fall an average of 38 points, with elevated delinquency following them into their cards, personal loans and auto loans.

Drawing on credit file data from millions of consumers and a national survey of 2,078 U.S. adults, this session examines where consumer credit risk is actually concentrating, and how that answer changes by product, score band and life stage. FICO analytics leaders will walk through the findings and what they suggest for card and personal lending portfolios heading into 2027.

THIS WEBINAR WILL COVER:

  • What a flat 714 conceals in card portfolios. Balances up, utilization down, delinquency steady, and subsequent 90+ delinquency improving across every score band. We unpack why those move together and what it says about where headroom is being extended.
  • Whether student loan distress is contained. Credit file evidence on how borrowers with a recent student loan delinquency perform on their other obligations, alongside what the payment hierarchy suggests about which products get paid first under strain.
  • How the personal loan market is changing shape. Origination mix moving up-score since 2019, balance growth running inverse to balance size, and what flat aggregate performance does and doesn't tell you when the underlying population is shifting.

TOP 3 BENEFITS TO ATTENDEES:

  1. A clearer read on your own numbers. Benchmarks by product, score band and age group that let you separate genuine performance improvement from a change in who you're lending to-a distinction the aggregate can't make for you.
  2. An early-warning view on cross-product spillover. Evidence on where student loan pressure surfaces in card and installment books, useful for account management and portfolio monitoring rather than origination alone.
  3. Consumer-side context for the credit-file trends. Survey findings on payment behavior, reliance on credit for medical and income shocks, and generational differences in financial cushion-the demand-side story behind the balance growth.
