CBA Recognizes Over 60 Lawmakers as “Fraud Fighters”
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Consumer Bankers Association (CBA) is proud to recognize the following lawmakers as Fraud Fighters for their important work to combat fraud and scams – helping to protect Americans from criminals and financial hardship. This week, CBA Fraud Committee Chair and EverBank Senior Vice President Patrick McDade will also testify before Congress on how banks and lawmakers can work together to further combat fraudsters and scammers.
“Fraud has surged at an alarming rate, affecting American consumers’ ability to afford necessities and causing further emotional pain,” CBA President and CEO Lindsey Johnson said. “Banks spend billions of dollars and thousands of man hours each year working to protect consumers from fraud and scams. CBA has long called for federal action to protect consumers from fraud and scams, hosting roundtables with policy experts, and publishing op-eds highlighting the dangers of fraud. Thank you so much to these leaders in Congress for developing solutions that will help to protect millions of Americans from scams and fraud!”
Over the past year, many lawmakers have rallied to provide solutions to the fraud and scams crisis—which affect millions of Americans across every congressional district—hosting hearings and roundtables on the issue and drafting legislation to enact further protections and transparency for consumers. CBA welcomes the opportunity to collaborate and partner with policymakers on additional solutions moving forward.
- The Guarding Unprotected Aging Retirees from Deception (GUARD) Act aims to direct federal agencies to report to Congress on the current state of fraud and scams – an opportunity to bring transparency and greater accountability amid this crisis.
- Similarly, the Taskforce for Recognizing and Averting Payments Scams (TRAPS) Act aims to create a coordinated federal task forced to prevent scams – a solution that CBA has championed as a means to effectively curtail scams.
- In February 2026, Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), Senator Bernie Moreno (R-PA), Rep. Dan Meuser (R-PA), and Rep. Luis Correa (D-CA) introduced the Safeguarding Consumers from Advertising Misconduct (SCAM) Act – a bill to empower the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to prohibit online platforms from displaying fraudulent ads.
